Aanandam - Thiruvizha TV Aanandam

Thiruvizha endrale Tamizh Nattil Anandamum kondattamum thaan. Whether it is Deepavali festival or Pongal festival, Independence day or Republic Day we will have a wonderful day watching the TV from six in the morning to eleven at night.
Whether Sun TV or Jaya TV or the TV shows in Tamil which I have never seen, throughout the day we will be enthralled and delighted by interviews with Cheran to Senguttuvan, Bharathi Raaja, Bagyaraja, Ilaya Raja and so many known and unknown Rajaas till we become imagination poppers.
Right in the morning before we look at the faces of our beutiful wives and loving children, we will have the pleasure listening to Namita, from Surat in Gujarat speaking in broken Tamil. What a pleasure, what a way to celebrate our festivals.
Once we are tired of seeing, because it is only seeing, not hearing, Asin, to Nayan Dhara, Jotika, Trisha and Sneha in between in advertisements, to Shreya to ............. a long list of naval showing beuties, Pappayya sir will be getting ready for his Patti Mandram.
After this we will also have the pleasure of seeing the same Vijay or Vijay Kanth or Rajni Kanth Movie for the 5th, or 6th or 16th time. Vaazhga Tamizh Kulam, Valarga namadu Kalacharam.

Ashok Chakra for Major Dinesh

Major Dinesh Raghu Raman, who was killed in a gun battle with militants in Jammu and Kashmir last year, has been awarded country's highest peacetime gallantry award Ashok Chakra.

Major Dinesh was chosen for the decoration on the eve of Independence Day, last year. Major Dinesh Raghu Raman, was posted to 34 Rashtriya Rifles Batallion. In October last year, he deployed his company in a village in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir where an encounter with militants was taking place. When he was closing on a suspected hide-out of the militants, he heard an injured fellow officer screaming for help.

Major Raman crawled to reach out to the hospital as he came under heavy fire from the militants. He managed to bring the officer to safety and returned to take on the terrorists, killing two.The battle left him severely wounded and he later succumbed to his injuries.

Major Dinesh hails from Kancheepuram in Tamilnadu and was commissioned in the Jat Regiment in 1999. Major Dinesh's wife Latha is an employee with TCS and is expecting their first child in about two months time. Major Dinesh's father Veteran Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) S.Krishnamurthy said, "despite loosing my son I would still advise my grandchild who is yet to be born, to join the army and serve the nation".

This day and every day we must pay our regards and respects to such people who are great in their thinking and action.

BHARAT RATNA

In the last one month there is lot of debate about deserving candidates for the Bharat Ratna award. From Sachin Tendulkar to Mulayam Singh Yadav, from Atal Bihari Vajpayee to M.F.Hussain. Just think of the list of people who have been given this award and those who really contributed greatly to this country and to the world and left out of any debate for this award.
Let us look at the award winners so far:
Aruna Asaf Ali
B. R. Ambedkar
Abul Kalam Azad
Vinoba Bhave
Gopinath Bordoloi
Bhagwan Das
Morarji Desai
Indira Gandhi
Rajiv Gandhi
V. V. Giri
Zakir Hussain
Abdul Kalam
K. Kamaraj
Pandurang Vaman Kane
Dhondo Keshav Karve
Bismillah Khan
Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
Nelson Mandela
Lata Mangeshkar
Gulzarilal Nanda
Jayaprakash Narayan
Jawaharlal Nehru
Govind Ballabh Pant
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Rajendra Prasad
Purushottam Das Tandon
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
C. Rajagopalachari
M. G. Ramachandran
C. V. Raman
Satyajit Ray
Bidhan Chandra Roy
Amartya Sen
Ravi Shankar
Lal Bahadur Shastri
M. S. Subbulakshmi
Chidambaram Subramaniam
J. R. D. Tata
Mother Teresa
Mokshagundam Vishvesvarayya

How many of them you know through their achievements? Who in the present generation will fit the list?
According to me even in the list mentioned above, few won the award, either while living or posthumously, have not really contributed enough to humanity deserving the highest award in our country. Therefore in future, not before the Republic Day celebrations, there must be an on going debate on identifying the deserving candidates. It is not the Government's job. It is the job of the educated, conscientious population of the country. To get into a debate and bring the recommendations to the committe. It is not the job of the politicians. Join me in posting names day to day.

Tamil Achievers

There are many Tamil Achievers and Winners around the world. Today I want to make two Achievers from Tamilnadu known to all my contacts. One is Mr.Selvaraj - at the age of 82, he participated in a marathon run at pune and completed the distance in 17 minutes and 35 seconds. He stood 4th amongst the participants aged above 70. Considering his age, he deserves appreciations from all of us. All the Best Shri.Selvaraj. Long live with good health.
The second achiever is Ms.Kavitha. She represented the Indian Kabbadi team as a Vice Captain in the 2nd Asian Championship at Tehran, Iran. And Indian Women's Team won the Gold Medal. Selvi.Kavitha - the achiever is from Madurai. Great Achievement Kavitha. Keep it up and bring more laurels to our motherland.

Jallikkattu resumes

It was interesting to note on Sun TV channel, what importance the people of Madurai district attach to the Jallikkattu celebrations. It is not only a Veera Vilaiyattu for the Tamils, it also has lot of sentimental and religious values. I think that there was the right kind of intervention in starting it again. Aghast! I was at the same time side to read about the death of people in Palamedu Jallikkattu. Today is Jallikkattu at Alanganallur. I wish the Tamils there an excellent and safe day. All the best to you all

Jallikkattu banned

Pongal is very close. it is time for celebration. it is time for pattimandram and jallikkattu. but this year we will have no jallikkatu. the supreme court has ruled against it. everyone has a different view on this. this was quoted as a 400 year old sport and the judges ridiculed it by saying we now live in a civilized society.

if jallikkattu is banned in tamilnadu, i feel kite festival also must be banned. particularly in gujarat. birds die in hundreds. two wheelers on the road get hurt in 100s. children fall from balconies and roof tops - die and fracture their bones. in comparison to jallikkattu, kite flying causes more harm to birds and the humans. join me in raising the voice.

the whole idea is to provoke the thoughts. get activated. with regards - tamizhanban
